The Team

Peter Berger II, CEO

Peter Berger II is the former CEO of Alitora Sytems, adviser to UCSF's Catalyst T1 Program, HotShotMedia, and several other stealth start-ups. He is the Organizer of the Silicon Valley Semantic Technology Group, which has over 1000 members. He has been a guest lecturer at Cornell University and has been both a member and a moderated of numerous panels on the use of meaning based computation technology. Peter is an attorney licensed in California, New York and New Jersey. He graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Rutgers University, Newark, and received a Bachelor's degree from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.

Karl Dawson, Founder and CTO

Karl Dawson is the visionary and brains behind Topicmarks' patent-pending "secret sauce". He has been the principal behind such successful startups as Deltavista, which was rated by Bilanz as one of the top 100 Small Businesses in Switzerland in 2001 and 2002. During the last decade, his startup PhiScape has worked to make back-office banking systems, digital content distribution companies and theater management systems more scalable and robust. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Karl was Chief Software Architect for Rentenanstalt Swiss Life and a Senior Developer for Credit Suisse. Karl is an ardent believer in "innovating simplicity."

Jaromir Dzialo, Founder and Engineer

Jaromir Dzialo is a seasoned software engineer and project manager who has worked for over 17 years in IT for companies in the US, Canada, Switzerland, Poland and Germany. His past experience includes projects for the Swiss banking industry, a platform for 95% of the cinemas in Switzerland, two successful start-ups and several open source projects. He is a co-author of a patent entitled "Method and System for Generating a Document Representation." He is a user experience enthusiast and evangelist, with a passion for solving usability, ergonomics, and human error issues using applied psychology principles.

Matt Walters, Business and Corporate Development

Matt Walters is an alum of Princeton and Wharton and has held several finance and general management positions at AIG, IBM and the startup non-profit Room to Read. Matt is also the former Co-Country Director and CFO of the startup LifeGivingForce, an organization whose mission is to employ entrepreneurial business practices to sustainably provide clean drinking water to people across Haiti. While at Room to Read, Matt helped scale the small startup to nearly 300 worldwide employees in 11 countries. Matt's unabashed passion is to develop businesses that will change the world.

Piotr Metel, Engineer

Piotr Metel is a software engineer who has worked 10 years as a programmer, architect and team leader for companies in Krakow and Zurich. His main focus has been in developing server-side and distributed systems in the e-commerce, digital cinema, ticket booking engine and natural language processing fields. Piotr has been integral to Topicmarks from its inception, working with the team on initial ideas and later converting them into the source code.

Wojciech Pater, Engineer

Wojciech Pater has a degree in Applied Mathematics from Jagiellonian University, Krakow and Computer Science from AGH, Krakow. Wojciech also has 20 years of experience in software engineering as a programmer, software architect, system analyst, IT consultant and CTO. He has led major projects for Polish and international companies in the fields of telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, banking, digital cinema, and healthcare. Lately, he has been focused on distributed computing, web applications, applications frameworks and natural language processing. Wojciech has been working closely with Topicmarks since its inception.
