How does Topicmarks work?
Topicmarks uses natural language processing algorithms to derive the most important ideas from each text source.
What can I use Topicmarks for?
The best way to enjoy using Topicmarks is by connecting everything that is important to you in your cloud respositories, such as white papers, share documents and school research, with the news sources that you follow in Google Reader. This will allow you to fully take advantage of Topicmarks' ability to find linkages between all of the information flowing through your life. Whatever is most important to you, Topicmarks can help summarize, group together and index.
Here are just a few uses that users have enjoyed using Topicmarks for in the past:
- Reading news articles longer than 2-3 paragraphs
- Sifting through legal cases
- Creating executive summaries
- Sifting through annual reports
- Building a knowledge base for a graduate thesis
- Finding related news articles
- Reading up on industry analyses
- Sifting through annual reports
What kind of files can Topicmarks read?
Currently, Topicmarks supports the following file types:
- Adobe Acrobat PDF (.pdf)
- Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx)
- OpenOffice ODF text (.odt)
- Hypertext Markup Language (.htm, .html)
- Plain text (.txt)
We will be adding more file formats to Topicmarks in the future.
What kind of languages can Topicmarks read?
For now, Topicmarks is designed to work only with English texts. You will get an error if you try uploading a text that is in another language. Machine reading and natural language processing are very language-specific. Even related languages are so different in their subtle meanings that it is near impossible to write software that can deal with multiple languages at once. This is why we designed Topicmarks to work properly only with English texts. While this group of language geeks can't wait to get started on additional languages, we're putting those plans on hold for now.
How long will Topicmarks store my texts?
Topicmarks is designed to store your text forever. While we do not charge for storage now, we may be forced to charge for large accounts in the future.
If I upload a text to Topicmarks, is it confidential?
Yes, we monitor accounts to provide you better performance and help resolve errors. To learn more please see our Privacy Policy.
